Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 91z May 2011
Lenovo ThinkCentre Edge 91z
To accompany two new Lenovo laptops, Lenovo has also unveiled the ThinkCentre Edge 91z all-in-one desktop computer. It's a powerful machine but has a much smaller footprint than a typical desktop PC. We'll be testing the ThinkCentre Edge 91z in our labs later this year, but in the meantime you can find out more about it in our first look and video below.
Lenovo claims that the ThinkCentre Edge 91z is one of the most powerful and thinnest all-in-one PCs around. It's powered by Intel i3, i5 or i7 Quad Core processors and has a 21.5-inch display that's 2.5 inches thick and can be wall-mounted. The heaviest version weighs 8.4kg.
It runs Windows 7 OS, and comes with either a wired (USB) or wireless (Bluetooth) mouse and keyboard, which Lenovo says is resistant to liquid spillages. If opting for the wireless keyboard then a Bluetooth dongle will be required.

At its base, beneath the screen are some key functional, front-facing buttons. Unlike many all-in-ones we review, the Edge 91z doesn't support touchscreen operation.
It has a 2Mp webcam above the screen and six USB ports, two of which are side-facing with the remaining four accessible from the rear. The 91z supports HDMI so could be plugged into an HD TV or Blu-ray player. A Blu-ray DVD drive is available as an optional extra, but the 91z lacks an integrated TV tuner. A VGA connection is also available for non-HD equipment, and enables the Edge 91z to be used as a second monitor.
High-speed booting
Lenovo claims that thanks to its RapidDrive and OS enhancement, the ThinkCentre Edge 91z AIO boots up to 30% quicker than other, non-optimised models. In our hands-on time using the machine we were unable to put this claim to the test, although we shall measure its performance in our labs when we come to testing the 91z later this year.
The Lenovo Edge 91z comes with either 80GB of solid state drive storage or 1TB of hard drive and offers 1GB, 2GB or 4GB of memory.
It's due to go on sale this month, with the lowest-spec model retailing at around £750.
First impressions
The Edge ThinkPad 91z isn't a terribly remarkable machine, and its most basic version, on paper, seems to offer little more than many laptops.
The slim build is appealing, but its lack of touchscreen control, TV tuner and remote control means it doesn't offer much that other all-in-one PCs don't offer.
Full judgment on its performance shall be reserved until we can compare it directly with other models in our labs.
