Nintendo Wii and DSi Nintendo Wii accessories

If you're looking for accessories for your Nintendo Wii console, there's a whole range available. These include official products made and supplied by Nintendo as well as those supplied by third parties. There are far to many to list, but we've picked out the major official products which could enhance your console. They're all widely available.

Wii controller

Controllers and remotes

Wii remote

  • Approx price £30

The Nintendo Wii is aimed at group use rather than single-player gaming, so an additional remote is essential; it enables you to play against your friends and family.

The Wii can support up to four remotes, with blue lights at the bottom indicating which remote you're using.

Wii nunchuck

Wii Nunchuck

  • Approx price £15

What is a Wii remote without its Nunchuck accessory?

The Nunchuck is an additional analogue joystick control. You can use it to move your character about while you point your Wii remote at the screen - as a gun, say.

Most games need a Nunchuck as well, so it's worth buying one of these along with any additional remote.

Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable

Cables

Component cable

  • Approx price £25

While the Wii doesn't put out a full HD picture, it's capable of producing images better than those the supplied standard composite cable can provide.

The component cable will ensure that you get the best possible image quality from your Wii, and display images in 480p.

Peripherals

wii-motion-plus

Wii Motion Plus

  • Approx price £25

This small device plugs into the end of your Wii remote and, Nintendo claims, will give you perfect one-to-one control of games.

However, it's not compatible with all games, so you won’t notice an improvement on older titles.

wii-balance board

Balance board

  • Approx price £75

The Wii balance board was developed to give gamers an even more interactive experience.

It was first launched with Wii Fit, but more balance board-compatible games are coming out, such as Wii Family Ski.

Wii LAN Adapter

Wii LAN adapter

  • Approx price £23

If you don't have a wireless network available, you'll need to buy this adaptor which allows you to connect to the internet via an Ethernet cable (around £20).

The Wii doesn't have a built-in Ethernet port, so the LAN adaptor will simply convert one of the USB sockets to an Ethernet socket.

Wii Wi-Fi USB Connector

Wi-Fi USB connector

  • Approx price £30

If you don't have a wireless router, then a Wi-Fi USB connector is worth considering.

It's simply a Wi-Fi USB stick that can send out a wireless signal.

This is useful if you can't stretch an Ethernet lead from your router to your Wii. It can also be used to connect your Nintendo DSi to the internet.

Wii Wii Speak

Wii Speak

  • Approx price £33

The Wii Speak is essentially a microphone system which allows you to chat to your friends via the Wii Speak channel.

It can also be used for in-game chat, but there are few compatible games available.
