Useless if you don't use it regularly
I noticed that my Go Live 1000 was flat everytime I used it (once every few weeks), and that it kept restarting itself for the first 10 to 20 minutes when plugged in (very irritating when going somewhere you aren't sure of).To cut a long conversation with TomTom Support short, it is a design feature. Apparently it uses its battery even when switched off, and if you don't use it regularly then you have to recharge it and reset it before using it. I have that in writing from them. So, if you use it daily (or at least 2 or 3 times a week) then you won't have a problem. If you only need it in emergencies then it is pointless.I've cut my losses and bought a Garmin (after owning 3 TomToms); its routing is inferior, its traffic is inferior, but at least when I turn it on it does something.I can't believe how badly TomTom have failed. May I suggest you review standby battery performance - i.e. how long the device stays charged when not in use? Any less than a month would strike me as pointless. You could also review what you have to do to get it working after it has gone flat - full charge followed by device reset is hardly practical ...

Terrible customer service
"My TomTom" computer software kept insisting that it wasn't installed when it certainly was.New maps wouldn't update. When i renewed my "live services", they just stopped working altogether.TomTom had a GPS problem back in April, unfortunately i just happened to need my TomTom to work at that time. I was in the middle of nowhere and i had no idea how to get home.I contacted TomTom on many occasions, but nothing was ever fixed, they even sent it to repair and even replaced the product entirely but they couldn't even do that properly and screwed that up. Over the last six months i must have spoken to 20 different advisor's in 3 different countries, they all told me that the last guy told me rubbish and that they would solve all my problems.I have sought legal advise from Which? and may take them to court for breach of warranty. Buy a Garmin or Navman. Anything but a TomTom! It's just not worth the hassle.

Go Live 1000 - recurrent problems and poor customer service
I purchased the TomTom Go Live 1000, UK, Ireland and Europe in November 2010. It worked well at first but after a few months it started to lose the route and switch itself off mid-use. Resetting it and updating the map software didn't help. I took it back to Halfords, who told me they were unable to exchange it or offer a refund and that they could call TomTom customer services while I waited but that it would probably be more convenient for me to call myself from home. After several long and confusing calls to TomTom, I was 'allowed' to return it to Halfords for an exchange. The replacement had the same problems with the additional glitch that the battery does not retain a charge and so has to be plugged in constantly. Really poor performance from TomTom and Halfords - I would not recommend this satnav.

Go Live 1000 UK, Ireland and Europe
I purchased this in Dec 2011 based on Which? report from John Lewis. Initially worked well, but since they had satellite crash in Australia about two months ago, I found out the aweful customer service - opened only during business hours and has a long waiting time. The Speed Camera does not work and I just dread everytime I have to speak to TomTom customer service - still under warranty - thinking of returning back to John Lewis. Echo comments of other disappointed users here. Disaapointed with Which? for not stating about awaeful customer service from TomTom

If you’re going A to B only, a great system, if not or you want to save anything like a route, forget it and go elsewhere!
Like many here I have been a keen and loyal user of the Tom Tom systems since they first came on the market. Until recently I had the Go 910 and it has served me very well indeed all over Europe and I have built a sound trust in the system and its features. In the main I use it while driving a Coach and like to plan my routes in advance including UK pickups etc and for this reason I depend on things like the ability to create and save a comprehensive itinerary/route plan. This means once my homework is done and checked I can just get on and drive with my eyes outside on the road not looking down at maps etc, which has to be good. Though its served me well the 910 is getting a little long in the tooth so I decided to splash out on a new system and went instantly for the Go Live 1000 a buying decision I based totally on the trust I had in Tomtom and the tom tom system. What a bad mistake that was. It’s become apparent to me that Tom Tom no longer value customer loyalty and as long as they sell their units, they don’t care. When I got the Go live 1000 I loved the mapping and the whole feel of the system, nice clear and concise. Imagine my surprise to find that the Itinerary planning function no longer exists? After extensive enquires I found out I could create a plan with just 4 waypoints and that’s all, but here’s the best bit YOU CANT SAFE IT!!!! So the minute you plan another route its gone...What the h e ll was Tom tom thinking here???? The ability to create and safe a comprehensive Itinerary to me is essential in my work, so 4 way points in no use to me at all, plus I am sure passengers would just love it if I stopped at the side of the road for another 10 minutes to plan the next 4 pickups! So instantly the unit became useless to me and a total con. Why in the world was the basic functionality of this unit neglected in this way? What annoys me more than anything is that nothing was mentioned in any of the literature or the publicity stuff about the removal of this functionality and not one single review mentioned it! I contacted Tomtom who told me you can have an itinerary with 4 way points and they knew nothing about any plans to bring back the itinerary planning functionality. So £250 down the pan, just great....I had one stroke of luck, I did an update for the re naming of speed cameras in France (Danger Zones!!) and from that point on the unit kept crashing and re booting over and over. So it went back for a full refund. So I bought the unit and used it just once locally to test it and it broke and went back all within 3 weeks. So I spent the money on updating the maps on my old 910 and I have continued to use that and I am happy with it. So until Tomtom get their act together and start listening to what customers are tell them and stop think about the fast buck, AVOID the NEW RANGE OF TOM TOM like the plague if you need an ability to create and save a route plan. Tom Tom have let us down badly here and customers tend to vote with their feet. Garmin could be worth a closer look after all.

Awful device - DO NOT BUY THIS
Had owned for only 2 weeks and suddenly every time I switch it on it enters a continuous cycle of restarting itself - it seems that it cannot get a fix on LIVE services and just crashes. Doing a reset does not solve this. Every now and then it works, which is when you realise the hardware is very slow as it cannot keep up - screen is very jerky and takes very long to move from one view to another. Got my money back and sticking with my iPhone.

Poor Go 750 Live
About 30% of the time it will not find the location until I have started driving for about 2 or 3 minutes. The maps are very slow to change from one setting to another, this is unbearable at times. Also, I added Shell petrol stations, but when I get close to one, the icon appears on top of the zoom graphic so I am unable to zoom out of the map. I have now deslected the stations and yet they still appear. It often looses its location and the system requires a re-boot. The touch screen is very unreliable, often requiring 2 or 3 tries to get it to work. The map voice system has a flaw, that when aproaching two mini roudabouts the first message gets truncated by the second which results in no direction for the first roundabout. I would not recommend this particlar model to anyone.

Can't get a fix
Tomorrow I am taking my Tom Tom Go 1000 Live back to Halfords because it has a fault. I cannot get a gps fix. TomTom Forum users suggested I do a full reset and then a factory reset but no joy. The unit is mid-life so it is within warranty. Interestingly though, I also have a TomTom XXL Classic and that works perfectly.

Avoid the Tom Tom Experience if you can
I purchased the Go Live 1005 after reading the screed, major benefit I thought would be the ability to use spoken commands...However, I had much the same experience of Tom Tom tech support as many other reviewers, to say not very good would be an understatement.Mine speaks English with French phonetics and only does text to speach in French (I bought it in France) the Tom Tom publicity says it can interact in quite a few different languages, however, the rider says not all languages are available... so you can translate that to it only speaks one language. The device does not do what it says on the box so take my advice and go elsewhere and avoid the Tom Tom experience as it won't help your blood pressure.

Good SatNav let down by TomTom website.
I have had a GO 1000 Europe for twleve months now and have found it to be very good. I bought this model for the HD traffic feature which gives up to date and very accurate information on the location of any incidents.I attempted to use the TomTom web site when I first bought the device without much success - however a few days ago I had to renew my subscription to "Live Services" and so had to try again. I eventually managed to pay and thought I was fixed up for another year, until I switched the sat nav on and found the traffic feature not working. I did eventually sort it out but no thanks to Tom Tom's web site.Attention to detail with clear, concise instructions on the web site would save a lot of frustration and unhappy customers.

It went straight back!
I decided to upgrade from the 740 live and couldn't believe TomTom thought it would be a good idea to omit many of the features from the older models such as itinerary planning (now released itinerary planning for 4 stops). The MyTomTom never really properly when using a mac. TomTom advised me to use a PC! I'm back using the 740 for now and the 1000 has been returned.
