Mobile phones: Compare features & prices Apple iPhone 4 8GB review

The new iPhone 4 16GB is noticeably slimmer than the iPhone 3GS. It also has metal buttons and a metal band around the edges. This gives it an industrial feel and makes the iPhone 3GS feel rather plasticky by comparison - but the band isn't just for appearance, it doubles up as the phone's antenna. We'd been impressed by Apple's previous phones - how would this new version measure up?

Not fit for purpose
I'm the first to admit I'm not in a good reception area but my previous phones, a blackberry and a nokia both coped well. On this iphone 4 I can only take and receive calls if I leave it flat on the desk and have it on speaker phone and even then I sometimes lose the call or it breaks up. 02 said it was a problem with the phone. Apple replaced it but it made no difference and then they said it was the reception. It makes no difference whether its in a case or not. Not impressed at all. If I could give it no stars I would.

Oozes quality but has issues.
Whats good: Camera, Screen, ease of use, quality feel.Whats Bad: NO BACK BUTTON, fgs why is there no back button?4 has the problem; when your holding in your left hand you lose signal. Not as good as Blackberry for e-mail and messenger. Lacks costomisation. Your stuck with that dumb i-phone look that was only good when it first appeared. Want an interesting ring tone? your in a world of trouble unless you want to pay for it.If you want to download a free app. you have to join i-tunes and hand over a credit card even though its free.I really get the feeling big brother is watching using this phone. I think QBowser kind of sums up the average iPhone user. Still its a KO phone, just wish that this level of quality was widely available and I could dump apple.

Awesome!
I have just recently got this as my first iPhone, having previously been put off largely by cost, but maybe also by hype? Anyway, having had a disappointing experience with a Samsung Android model I finally took the plunge, persuaded in part by the tethering capabilities which mean I can do away with my separate 3G dongle and associated costs. And what a phone. Superb in every respect, easy to use and, erm, good at making phone calls! I have noticed no issues with the external antenna, perhaps because I have a clear snap-on case. After belatedly coming to the iPhone party, I can see what all the fuss was about. An awesome piece of kit.
