Mobile phones: Compare features & prices Nokia C3 Touch and Type review

The Nokia C3 Touch and Type (also known as the C3-01) is a thin, sleek phone with a familiar, no-frills Nokia design. We put it through our rigorous tests to see how well it compares with other mobile phones on the market.

2 into 1 doesn't go
The worst mobile phone in 16 years! Nokia's attempt to use a mix of keyboard and touch screen is bad design unless you have baby fingers. Back very difficult to prise off if changing cards and now Touch Screen has stopped working and £24 + travel costs to repair. Reverted back to use old 6300 ("The best phone we ever made"-so Nokia said and how)Camera and flash quite good-about the only redeeming feature. Beware 2 year contracts on phones that can't last the pace.

Update on faulty phone
I took my faulty C3 to Carphonewarehouse and I've just been told that they will not repair or replace it as it has suffered liquid ingress. This is a phone that has never been dropped into any liquid, left in the rain or had anything other than normal, careful domestic use. They are arguing that the warranty is void so it is not their problem anymore. My view is that the device is not fit for purpose if it can not cope with normal domestic use. CPW response is that is something that I'll have to take up with Nokia. Conclusion: I will never have another Nokia phone and I'll never buy a phone from CPW. Be warned!

Waste of money
The Nokia C3 is probably, no definitely, the worst phone that I have ever owned. In the first year, the camera stopped working, the speaker acquired an annoying intermittent crackle, it started taking an age to boot up, and now the whole device has given up during a Nokia Suite back-up and software update. I wish that I had kept my older Nokia, at least that one worked.

Great Little Phone
I am really happy with this phone, its cheap light weight and has a metal case which is handy as I do tend to drop my phone a lot, its really easy to jump between touch screen and key pad. Great all rounder for normal phone and its very easy to use for emails.Couldn't be happier, really well suited for normal users who just text and talk.

I love this phone, but ..
This phone is gorgeous to hold and see. It's beautifully designed and made. It's small, much smaller than most other smart phones, so fits into any of my pockets or bags and with its small screen is virtually indestructible. The battery life is the best of the many phones I've owned - with about a couple of hours use and 100 texts it goes a week between charging. Texting with the alphanumeric keys and predictive text is a doddle. Picking up e-mail or surfing the net is possible, but .... You need very good eye sight! I've had mine for 18 months and one of the best features is the profile setting - you can choose to have the phone ring only if certain people who you've selected call. So, at night time I have the phone set so that only calls from family will make the phone ring. This cuts out annoying early hours texts from crazy friends but without having to have the phone on silent for all calls. Brilliant! Call quality is good, though possibly not as good as my old Motorola. Ease of use is good too - the on screen information is pretty straightforward to follow. The camera is lovely - a really good flash for such a small device and nice photo quality in good light. So why not 5 stars? Well, the screen brightness is fine for indoors but is useless on a sunny day outside and despite e-mailing Nokia for info about changing this there does not seem to be any way to make the screen brighter. Also, the resistive touch screen is beginning to show its weakness - it's losing sensitivity and after 18 months of use is getting a bit frustrating. The Symbian OS version is fast on phone applications but slow on- line. Photos load up quickly and can be attached and sent via 3G or text attachments with ease. This is a really smart looking, beautifully made phone with many very good features but if you use it outdoors lots, or need internet access, it's not so good.

Quite pleased.
I bought this phone because I wanted a good quality screen for reading messages and big buttons for texting without having to find my reading glasses! You can adjust the font easily, so it does what I wanted. I was a bit dubious about the touch screen and it took some getting used to, but the specialist big button phones lacked a good camera or other things I use a lot like a calendar. I didn't want a smart phone (why would I want to read my emails in Tescos?) and it was hard to find anything other than really basic models. It's quite slippery to hold so I bought a case that flips open and I would agree that the zoom is awkward to get at. It is impossible to see pictures on the screen in the sun, but overall I am pleased.
