Canon PowerShot and Ixus Autumn 2009 cameras Canon Ixus 200 IS and 120 IS

The Ixus 200 IS and the Ixus 120 IS are likely to be the last Canon Ixus models to be launched this year.

In the shape of the Ixus 200 comes Canon's first foray into the touchscreen digital camera market. The bijou Canon Ixus 200, on the other hand, is the update to the Ixus 100. To allow for a larger (2.7-inch) screen, Canon has scrapped the tiny viewfinder found on the previous model.

The Ixus 200 offers touchscreen control for a number of shooting, and playing back features; however there are also 'hard' buttons for all of the controls.

The 200 features a very wide 24-120mm (5x) lens, a 12.1Mp sensor, and optical image stabilisation.

Canon Ixus 120 IS

The Ixus 120 comes with a more powerful zoom than the Ixus 100 predecessor, which results in the body of the 120 being ever so slightly thicker in order for it to accommodate the 28-112mm (4x) wide angle lens.

The 120 features a 12.1Mp sensor and, as the name suggests, optical image stabilisation (IS), to help curb the blurring effects of shooting with unsteady hands.

A more in-depth hands-on look at both of these new Ixus models will be published in our digital camera report in the next few days.
