Canon PowerShot and Ixus Autumn 2009 cameras Canon PowerShot G11 and S90

The Canon PowerShot G11 is the latest PowerShot in the G-series: a range of digital cameras with a rich pedigree.

Full reviews of the Canon G7, Canon G9 and Canon G10 can be read in our digital camera report, and we look forward to testing the G11 in our labs soon. In the meantime check out our video introduction to the Canon PowerShot G11, and the newly announced Canon PowerShot S90.

Canon PowerShot G11

The main differences between the G10 and the new G11 are that the G11 features a reduced sensor resolution and an adjustable LCD.

The moveable LCD is great for when shooting up high and down low, while the reduced megapixel count should, in theory, increase the sensor's sensitivity to light, allowing for pictures to be taken with less graininess - particularly in dimly lit condition when not using a flash.

The Canon PowerShot G11 features a 28mm wide lens with a 5x zoom, and the sensor has a 10Mp resolution as opposed to the 14.7Mp on the previous model.

Canon PowerShot S90

The S90 is a pocket-sized camera with a whole raft of manual functions. One of the more interesting features of the camera is its 'Control Ring'.

The control ring can be easily set to adjust a number of manual settings, including white balance, ISO and the manual focus. The ring is situated around the lens and provides the user with tactile ergonomic control.

The ring can also be used to control the zoom and the new 'Nostalgia' scene mode: a mode the gradually introduces noise to an image whilst turning down the colour saturation to provide an aging effect to the photographs.

We will publish a more in-depth hands-on review of both the G11 and the S90 in our digital camera report over the next few days.
