Nikon D300S and Nikon D3000

Nikon has announced the D300S and the D3000 digital SLRs. The two models are very different: the D300S being aimed at the more skilled photographer, and the D3000 being aimed squarely at a photographer upgrading from a compact digital camera to a digital SLR

Nikon D3000

The Nikon D3000 is a very basic, entry-level digital SLR aimed at users graduating from a compact digital camera to their first DSLR. It features a 10.2Mp sensor and a useful on-screen guide that teaches newcomers to digital SLR photography how to get the best out of the camera's functions.

The D3000 features a host of post-shoot retouching tools to allow you to tinker with the pictures that you've taken, as well as active D-lighting - a tool that is designed to bring out detail that is often lost when shooting photographs containing both light and dark areas.

Nikon D300S

The Nikon D300S is designed for keen amateurs and professional photographers. It has a 12.3Mp sensor and is able to store images and HD video files to either one of its two memory card slots.

The memory card slots support SD and Compact Flash cards, and allows users to save Jpeg to one, and RAW to the other, or video to one and photos to the other.

The D300S also features an external microphone socket, so audio can be recorded in stereo.
