Nikon D7000 September 2010
Nikon D7000 First Look
Nikon has announced its new D7000 DSLR ahead of Photokina 2010. Which? got hands-on with Nikon's D7000 at launch, for a preview of its features, including full 1080p video, a 16.2Mp sensor, a fast new processor and 39-point autofocus.
Rather than waiting until Photokina 2010, Nikon has already unveiled its latest digital SLR - the mid-range D7000. The headlines for this new DSLR include full 1080p video, a new 16.2Mp CMOS sensor and Nikon's Expeed 2 image processor.
The Nikon D7000 also has a new 39-point autofocus system, that can even continually autofocus when shooting video. Another advanced feature is the 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor to automatically set the optimum scene settings for the ambient light conditions.
The D7000 boasts sensitivity up to ISO 6,400 and can capture 6 frames per second in burst mode. There's a fixed 3-inch LCD screen with live view. A dedicated video button gives one-touch HD video recording, although for stereo sound you'll need to plug an external microphone into the jack.

For HD video and photo playback there's an HDMI socket, and the D7000 can record to either of the two SD memory card slots, which each support high-capacity SDXC cards.
The D7000 is set to retail for £1,100 for the body only, or for £1,300 with an 18-105mm lens.
We had a quick hands-on with the Nikon D7000 at launch, but will bring you a full video review from the Photokina 2010 show floor, and put the D7000 through our full expert lab tests later in the year.
