Nikon S1100pj

Last year Nikon launched the S1000pj: a digital camera with built-in projector. This year, Nikon has taken the wraps off a new and improved model: the Nikon S1100pj. Which? took a first look...

Nikon debuted its projector camera around a year ago, and now a new-and-improved model has surfaced - the 14Mp S1100pj digital camera.

The Nikon S1100pj has a projector that the company claims is 40% brighter than its predecessor, and can be plugged into a PC and project other documents, making it handy for presentations. In line with the previous model, it can also project video and stills images onto a wall much like a regular projector.

The model we looked at here was a pre-production model, so we were unable to really try out the projector to its full extent.

This projector camera has a 5x optical zoom and many of the functions can be controlled by touching the 3-inch screen. This touchscreen interface allows you to make notes on the screen that will appear in the projected image.

Slide shows can be played, and Nikon says that these can be accompanied with background music that's stored on the camera.

We first saw the original Nikon projector camera at the 2009 IFA technology show in Berlin. Since then, we have fully lab-tested the camera and it fared very well in our tests. We'll test the new projector camera soon, but until we have those results, you can find out more about the original S1000pj here:
