Olympus E-P2 November 2009

The Olympus E-P1 has only been around for a few months, but Olympus has already launched its second micro four-thirds camera, the Olympus E-P2.

There are only a handful of differences between the two Olympus models - most notably, Olympus has added a small connection socket on the rear of the E-P2, behind the hot shoe. This allows you to fix an electronic viewfinder or an external stereo microphone (for use with the HD video mode) to the camera.

The E-P2 will go on sale in January 2010 for around £850. The electronic viewfinder will be part of the package.

The viewfinder will not be compatible with the Olympus E-P1, as this camera doesn't have the necessary connection point. An optical viewfinder can be mounted to the top of the E-P1, but this is only compatible with the 17mm pancake lens and has to be bought separately.

New features on the Olympus E-P2

The 'Intelligent Auto' mode has been improved on the E-P2 and now features 'i-enhance'. According to Olympus, this enhances the colour of a photograph's main object by turning up the saturation. The feature is designed to draw the eye to towards the desired focal point of the shot and to create a more striking image.

The E-P2 also has a couple of new art filters to play around with. The 'Diorama' filter makes people, cars and buildings look toy-like in photos, and the 'Cross Process' filter mixes colours.

We'll be testing the E-P2 in our labs as soon as it is released next year.
