The Canon PowerShot S100 compact digital camera is an addition to the S-series of Powershot cameras, following in the footsteps of the S90 and S95. This 12Mp pocket model, which has an impressive host of manual controls, is aimed at enthusiastic photographers or DSLR owners looking for a backup camera. But is it good enough to be a Best Buy? This is my first digital camera, bought to replace several compact film cameras hat were no longer satisfactory. This camera has a perfectly good optical zoom range for most photographs, even mountainous landscapes. It feels solid and well-made and the handling is good.It is when one delves into the function menu that one realises that every single adjustment that it makes for you automatically can be manually over-ridden if desired. Arguably this makes it a bit of overkill for the point-and-shoot brigade, but interesting for the oldies who grew up with manual-everything cameras. I am still exploring....
Good camera with a solid feel to it. Optically sound and impressive with low light photography. One downside: The battery capacity is not enormous. After 200 shots you ll be looking for the charger. It will take a long time before I will want to part from it !
S100 Lens Error
This is a great camera, but i am giving it three stars as mine has been affected with the lens error defect.... hopefully there will be no more problems...!
This is a superb pocket camera! In auto and scene modes it takes fabulous photo's without any messing about, but if you want to set speed, aperture and ISO settings etc you can, and this will give you more flexibility to compose photo's as you want with depth of field as required. I'm not sure why the review critisises the flash - when you can set more or less flash on a picture I bought this to replace an SX210IS which is distinctly average, but the S100 is the bogs do-da's in comparion with this and every other pocket camera I have owned (several)! The only negative was the price when I bought it shortly after it ws released, but now this has come down drastically it represents an absolutely top buy.
