Bought this after owning compacts for years. I used to be an Olympus om1 owner in the 1980's and was hoping for a modern equivalent. So far this has been a briliant buy and it is tempting to leave it in auto mode all the time so good are the results.Hoping to try some of the other modes, e.g. aperture priority, in the Spring. So far so good and no smelly chemicals to deal with in order to get results!

Easy to use, flexible camera
Canon EOS 1001D. I've had this for six months and find it easy to use, just about light enough to carry round easily (fits in my handbag!). Has a very responsive quick-fire shutter - no annoying digital delay. Thanks to Which! review, I realised I could use my old Canon EOS slr 400mm lens on it which gives it extra versatility (although this lens is heavy to carry around). Depth of field feature is good giving a blurred background to portaits and close ups with one simple adjustment. Burst modes useful and very fast (though not available on every setting).Night mode has let me take some good night shots fairly easily without too many technical adjustments. Creative auto setting allows user to pre-select degrees of background blur. On screen information about how to use the selected mode.Annoying things: *No English instruction book provided by Pixmania. *When you take the lens cap off there is no way of attaching it to strap or camera easily - so potentially a problem with dropping the lens cap or losing it.Overall - a great camera at an affordable price. Good for SLR beginners as well as experienced users.

Having owned a more expensive Nikon DSLR previously (which I was very dissapointed with) I have to say that this camera is a revelation (although having borrowed an earlier EOS model from a friend previously it wasn't an unexpected revelation!!). Crystal sharp, easy to use, and a substantial but not too heavy feel. Buy the nifty fifty Canon 50mm 1.8 lens as well for great portrait shots.

Better than some more expensive cameras.
On paper this camera doesn't quite have the high tech specification of some more expensive cameras. In practice you won't notice, because this camera is brilliant. I rejected more expensive cameras because they were clumsy to handle and had poor viewfinder information.Since I have had this camera all my photo shoots have been tricky or pressure situations. I got the pictures I wanted and met my deadlines.

I had the canon eos 1100D for only a short while and have now got a pentax Kr. The canon has a lightweight build, which is easy to carry around and may suit someone who finds DSLR's bulky and heavy. It takes very good photos even though its only 12.2 Megapixel. The camera has direct access to several settings which is easier than having to go through the menu. It's come down in price now and has a simple guide to breifly tell the user what the settings are for. Also the range of new and used canon EF and EF-s lenses is huge. Great picture's but lightweight build
