Sport on TV Sky, ESPN and Eurosport
Some live golf is still available free
Sky, ESPN and Eurosport all offer coverage of a wide range of sporting events.
If you're a sports fanatic and like to follow all domestic, European and international games in your chosen sport, your best bet is Sky Sports.
Though most sports can be found on Sky, it doesn't mean that you are tied to one service provider. Virgin Media also offers Sky Sports channels.
Sky Sports
Sky Sports shows the largest amount of football, rugby, cricket and golf content overall, through four dedicated sports channels. Other sports featured on these channels include ATP tour tennis (including the finals), boxing, A1GP motor racing, darts, snooker, American sports and WWE Wrestling.
Sky Sports channels: Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 2, Sky Sports 3, Sky Sports 4 and Sky Sports News.
The Sky Sports channels are available on Sky and Virgin Media.
ESPN
Before going into administration in 2009, Setanta covered a wide range of sporting action, including football, golf, Magners League and French rugby, Australian rugby league, AFL football, American college football (NCAA), ice hockey (NHL), basketball (NBA), baseball (MLB), NASCAR motor racing, and also Irish GAA sports such as Gaelic football and hurling.
ESPN has taken over the rights to show Setanta's Premier League coverage in Great Britain. The American sports broadcaster will show 23 premiership matches from 2010/11 - 2012/13.
Eurosport
If you're keen on Sky, Virgin or Tiscali's TV services, but don't want to shell out for Sky Sports packages, choosing a monthly subscription pack that includes Eurosport could be a good compromise.
The European sports channel covers alternative football and rugby content, including live Bundesliga matches, UEFA five-a-side championships, international under-17 and under-19 football championships, and French Top 14 rugby union matches.
Tennis fans are especially well catered for on Eurosport, with live coverage of the ATP World Tour (excluding the finals), WTA Tour and the Australian Open, French Open and US Open grand slam tournaments.
Eurosport also has extensive coverage of motorsport (excluding F1 and World Rally) and winter sports.
The channel shows plenty of athletics, snooker and cycling events that you can also watch free on BBC and ITV channels.
