Pros: Nicely designed interface, magic motion remote (but only with the LX9900)
Cons: Poor instructions

LG looks good

LG’s Netcast looks great at a glance, even if the interface isn't as responsive as Samsung's. The well designed remote and decent YouTube interface (use of colour and layout are strong pluses) make it enjoyable to use. It had just three apps (Picasa, weather and YouTube) when we first tested it, but LG has since updated Netcast with a load more, including iPlayer and AceTrax.

Setting-up was a bit of a pain thanks to the lightweight misleading instructions (the pictures of the remote are wrong). Once into Netcast, the well-designed remote and colourful interface make it enjoyable enough to use. Navigation keys on the remote are sensibly laid out and the dedicated Netcast button is handy.

On the downside Netcast doesn't have an app store (like Samsung) and it's generally not as fast as Samsung - for example Google Maps felt a bit clunky in comparison.

By far the best thing about the LG was the magic pointer remote. This auxiliary remote control lets you navigate apps with an on-screen cursor. Pity it’s only an extra on the top- of-the-range 55LX9900 we tried out.

However, internet TV is just one small part of the package. To find out how we rated HD and SD, audio performance, features and ergonomics check out our full LED TV test results. Or take an in-depth look at 3D performance
