Toshiba Regza 40WL753
Net TV interface: n/a
Pros: Built-in wireless internet
Cons: Only one app (but newer Toshiba TVs feature LoveFilm and iPlayer), but still manages to be difficult to use
Pick of the apps: YouTube
Toshiba failed to impress
It’s difficult to make much out of the Toshiba. The model we tried only had one app (YouTube), hidden in the menu system. Even getting that to work was hit-and-miss and the remote was, at best, sluggish.
YouTube worked fine first time, but on a second round of testing we couldn’t get it to load. Our lab boffins managed a work-around but it should be easier than that to load up an app.
Searching is painfully slow
YouTube had a different look and feel in all the TVs we tested (each brand of internet TV presents the same apps in slightly different ways). Unfortunately, once loaded, it didn’t look great on this TV. And it wasn’t easy to use either. Using a pointer system to select text to search YouTube sounds like a nice idea, but it was painfully slow.
We’ll take a look at the new Toshiba offerings as soon as we can.
Regardless of the internet TV performance keep an eye on our LED, LCD and plasma TV review pages for for results for the WL753
