Blu-ray DVD players: Compare features & prices Sony BDP-S480 review Back to Results

The sleek Sony BDP-S480 Blu-Ray can access a range of internet video services, such as BBC iPlayer and YouTube. It can also play 3D Blu-ray discs. However, you'll need to buy a USB wi-fi dongle to access your home network wirelessly. This Sony Blu-Ray player is reasonably easy to use, but does it deliver the complete package?

BDP-S40 and BBC iPlayer
My experience of the product is generally good with one exception. BT can only provide a very poor broadband connection where I live, max .7Mbps. The implementation of iPlayer on PS3 copes with this, settling on a rate of .5Mbps for glitch free viewing. So far, the BDP-S480 will not go that slow, I assume wanting a connection rate of .8Mbps. This causes a glitch of about 15 seconds duration every approx 15 seconds. I have asked Sony to comment, but so far they havent bothered other than automated responses that are so irrelevant as to be laughable.
