LED, LCD and plasma TV: Compare features & prices LG 37LS570T review Back to Results

The LG 37LS570T has all the features and specifications you might expect from a mid-range, 37-inch TV, with an LED edge-lit, Full HD 1080p screen, a Freeview HD tuner and LG's latest line-up of internet TV services. The frame is slim and stylish and the price tag very attractive, and for many smaller living rooms a 37-inch screen is a better size than a larger 42-inch screen. We couldn't wait to take this example for a test drive.

Which? response to JohnOF – problems with USB, Flash and Sound
Thank you for your comments, here are our responses to the issues raised.
Sound: We have encountered this issue with several sets. The buzzing-type vibration is typically caused by the speaker drive unit setting up mechanical vibrations in the TV casing. This often happens on low frequency bass sounds, or impulsive sound such as a voice.
Our listening tests are designed to reveal such issues, but unfortunately the severity of the problem is not always consistent across all the manufacturing samples as it can depend on the consistency of mechanical construction in the factory. As it's a quality control issue, the sample we tested may have been OK, but a model bought some time later might not. Last year, we identified a serious problem of a similar nature in LG TVs and LG took action to the address the issue. We would therefore have expected LG to be more sympathetic to the problems you are having now.
Flash Player: This is a tricky one, and it's difficult to know who to blame here. Should online video providers, such as RTE, make their services compatible with legacy versions of Flash? Or should LG work harder to make all its software apps and browsers updateable to the latest standards? There are cost implications on both sides. The sooner there is a more unified and flexible online video standard, the better.
USB PVR: We say in the review that the TV can be used as a PVR via the USB socket, but only list a 2HDD 40GB to 2TB drive. This was based on the manual we had, either printed or electronic. If the manual had claimed USB SSD, we would have recorded this at the time. The latest LG TVs do claim to be compatible with USB SSD, and so the manuals may have changed since this set was tested. If there was an error with the manual you received, then we would again expect LG to be sympathetic to this.

3rd Moan!!!
Having previously moaned about the sound quality and the out-of-date Flash onboard (that cannot be updated), I have now found that LG has moved the goal-posts on their live/pause/review feature. According to the TV's manual an external hard drive or a USB SSD can be used as long as they both fall within certain parametres. Having purchased a nice, fast read/write Corsair 65GB Voyager USB drive that fits LG's requirements, I found that the TV would not recognise it. 'Live Chat' with LG revealed that the facility will only work with an external hard drive and that the TV's manual was probably correct when it was printed but not now. For a Which? Best Buy this set falls badly short of expectation. The USB and Flash problems are definitely design flaws; the sound flaw occured on my original set and its warranty replacement set as well, which for me, constitutes another design flaw. i hope that both LG and Which? read these reviews as well as We Public!

Great Picture, Great Value
Bought this LG 37LS570T for £379.99 from Co-op Electrical after reading Which? recommendation. I was aware from Which? that the dongle had to be purchased seperately so no problem as it was only £24 online.Easy to set up & programme, exceptional picture quality. A great value TV.

Flash Player limitations
This is my 2nd moan about my 'new' TV!The version of Flash Player installed on the TV is now out of date and, according to LG, cannot be upgraded. The newest version of the TV has, of course, got the most up to date version - but you have to buy the TV!!! This nonsense means that many applications that a Smart TV is supposed to be good at will not work or only work poorly. Also, for Irish customers, RTE Player cannot be accessed as Flash 11 is needed.Poor show LG.

LG 42 LS 570T
I have just purchased this TV on Which's recommendation. I found every thing easy to use BUT it fails to receive any signal. I ran the find digital TV at least 5 times at one point it claimed to have found some ITV channels but when sellected there was no signal again. I plug my old Goodmans cheap digibox back into the ariel socket and and normal didital service is found with good signal strenght. So I contact the TV supplier to be informed that cheap digiboxes have a boster in them where as LG built in freeview TVs dont. This is an expensive TV and they cant put a decent freeview reciever in it! Frackly I'm gobsmacked. So now I have to buy a booster for another £15 and looking more closely a TV dongle to connect to my WiFi at a price of £30. SURELY THIS SHOULD ALL BE BUILT IN. If the booster fails to work it will be going back....So watch this space.

Big TV
I'd have ideally liked a smaller TV but this was the one with the recommendation. I am very pleased with it but not so happy that I had to buy a dongle to get the Internet. I also bought a hard drive to record programmes but, in the event, I've kept on using my Humax PVR which is much easier. The TV is easy to set up and I like being able to watch iPlayer on the TV.The way you have to enter data is really annoying!

Super TV
I have only had the set one day having sent back two Panasonic TV's, the set appears to far superior when compared with the other two, the picture definition is far superior and it is generally very easy to use, it is only to be hoped that it keeps it up.

Great picture, let down by poor sound
This is a very well-spec’d Smart TV. It is full of all the latest hi-tec bits and bobs, especially if it can be networked. It does everything that it is supposed to. Having said that, I have two serious reservations. The sound from the built-in speakers is fine, but I found that at certain audio levels/frequencies that the speakers produce a very annoying vibration. This is typical during the news, where the presenters have nice, melodious voices and there was no other sound in the background. In fact, I complained to my supplier who replaced the TV immediately. Same sound problem with the new set - this is obviously a design fault. How the Which? team missed it is a wonder! LG did not want to know about any 'design fault'.Second, on the channel list, the unwanted channels cannot be removed. They can be partially (but not well) hidden. I was used to the excellent facility with my Humax set-top box in which I could delete unwanted channels, eg the adult, gay, etc, so that my children would not be exposed to their existence. This LG TV cannot do this, but LG did agree to pass my comments on to their design team.As the TV is of excellent quality, other than the sound, I will probably have to spend another £175 on a decent sound bar, which rather defeats the good bargain that I got in buying the set for £470!

Blu-Ray experience. WOW
After many stressful weeks of researching the colossal amount of TV's on offer, too-ing and fro-ing from different stores etc. I decided that the LG 37 LS570T would be an exceptional upgrade from my 26 inch Technika. I've had the pleasure to own this TV for just under a week now. It fitted the specifications i needed, Full HD screen, at least 100hz, 4 HDMI ports, Freeview HD etc. Setting the TV up was very easy, easy to mount to the wall, although the screws given were not very good quality so had to buy some more. 4 HDMI ports, 3 USB 2.0, 1 scart, 1 SVGA etc, more than enough connections to use. Normal freeview channels are pretty good, some do lack some sharpness though, and manually changing the sharpness doesn't really do alot. Freeview HD channels (which i have about 2 of, unsure as to why there is so little) are very vibrant and detailed. Secrets of Our Living Planet on BBC HD was absolutely crystal clear and full of colour. One of the main reasons i bought the LG 37LS570T was for the Full HD screen to use for Blu-Ray. And what a fantastic choice i made. Inserted Underworld on Blu-Ray into my PS3. Absolutely phenomenal performance. Up until now, I could see a slight difference between normal DVD's and Blu-Ray but this TV has, should I say, unlocked the full potential as to what a Blu-Ray film should look like. Colours are extremely crisp and like no other I have witnessed on a TV. The detail is second to none. Extremely pleased with the picture performance. I do have a concern with the use of gaming though. A 200hz (so it says) full HD TV in my book should be able to handle fast paced games. Call of Duty is around 65fps, one of the main reasons I was looking for a 100hz plus tv was to handle fast paced games, I wanted the picture to run smooth, no lagging whatsover. When I first loaded COD4 up, I could instantly tell there was a lag, even before I got online, there felt a heavy pull as I clicked through the options to get online, gameplay was 100% unplayable. After realising I needed game mode enabled, I got straight back in a game to find gameplay was playable but there was still a slight lag. Maybe a quarter to a sixth of a second to slow, this might sound ridiculous to some people, but for hardcore gamers, many unnecessary deaths due to lagging is extremely frustrating. Burnout Paradise I experienced some judder when the car was in mid air, not too bad, but disappointing for a TV of this calibre. The gameplay for Modern Warfare 2 was a lot better, no judder or lag. After reading disappointing reviews about the sound, I was pleasantly surprised by how it coped. It does lack in the bass section but nonetheless I didn’t expect a built in Harmon Kardon Subwoofer. Sound is nothing to rave about, but its not as terrible as some reviewers made out. I haven’t had the chance to use the smart features yet, as an LG dongle is needed to do this. A little annoyed that I wasn’t told in store when I purchased my TV, and quite annoyed that it wasn't sold with the TV. £450 is still quite a big sum of money, to take it home and realise that I am unable to use the smart features until I have purchased this dongle for an extra £25 quid (amazon) is rather frustrating. So now I will have to wait a week to fully explore my TV until I can afford one.The remote control is very user friendly, fits nice in your hand, easy to understand. I have read you can download an LG TV app for your smart phone, so you can use your smartphone as the remote, rather clever id say. Will have to see if my phone is compatible. So far I would recommend the LG 37 LS570T. The Blu-Ray experience the Full HD screen gives is undeniably top of its game, I couldn’t fault it for a single thing and for how little this costs compared to some of the higher end/priced TV's this LG would certainly give them an excellent run for there money. I am going to award this TV 3 stars out of 5 as I found the lag during game play a little unnerving for such a ''powerful'' machine. Feel rather let down about this issue. Overall its top of its class with picture quality and anyone looking for a new TV should seriously give the LS570T some decent thought.

Happy friend
A friend recently asked me for a recommendation for a new TV, I suggested this one based on the Which review and he went out and bought the 42 inch version. He is very happy with it, and found the set up to be straightforward. I have seen the TV and it looks great as an item as well as producing great pictures. I didn't notice any sound issues, but wouldn't profess to be an audiophile so take from that what you will. For this price I doubt it can be beaten and would get one myself if only my old Sony Bravia would hurry up and die!
