Michelin recalls tyres

10,000 defective Michelin tyres recalled

Tyre manufacturer Michelin is recalling 10,000 tyres which may have a dangerous defect.

The French multi-national says there could be a problem with 255/35 ZR 20 97Y Michelin Pilot Sport Extra Load tyres. The defect, which affects tyre sides, could lead to a rapid loss of air pressure – a significant safety risk. As a precaution, Michelin has decided to exchange all these tyres.

The tyre has been fitted as standard on some Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ8 models in recent years, so owners of these cars should check their tyres carefully. However, the recall is unlikely to affect many drivers, as only 29,000 of these tyres have been produced since 2000, of which Michelin estimates 10,000 are still in operation.

Michelin’s recall advice hotline is 0800 056 7200 for the UK; for the Republic of Ireland it’s 01 459 5955.
