Carphone Warehouse tweaks net deal

'Free broadband' now part of cheaper Talk3 deal

The new broadband deal is cheaper

Carphone Warehouse has changed its ‘free broadband’ offer after criticism from the advertising watchdog last week.

Previously, to get the broadband deal, you had to sign up to its Talk3 International package, which included international calls and cost £20.99 a month.

Now, the broadband deal is being promoted under its Talk3 plan. This costs £1 a month less and doesn’t include international calls.

Talk3 ‘free broadband’

The move is seen as a response to the Advertising Standards Authority which said that, since Talk3 International was a brand new package which included broadband, that was just part of the deal and not a free extra. It ruled the ‘free broadband’ ads were misleading.

However, the Talk3 plan already existed at the same price before it included ‘free broadband’ – so the service really is a free extra.

With Talk3 International, there was a connection charge of £29.99. But now, Carphone Warehouse is recommending its £29.99 modem for Talk3, rather than making it a mandatory part of the deal.
