Freeview says it has overtaken BSkyB to become the main digital TV service in 8.2 million homes.
The digital terrestrial provider said around 1.7 million digital boxes and Freeview enabled TVs were sold in the first quarter of 2007.
Of these around half a million new households choose Freeview as its primary TV source.
Freeview says it is now the main digital TV service for 8.2 million homes, up from 7.7m at the end of 2006.
The new figures put it ahead of Sky which had just under 8 million customers in the UK at the end of December.
However Sky said that more new customers had joined it in the last quarter than at anytime since the launch of Freeview.
