Digital TV advice service launches

It aims to help you through analogue switch-off

A new online postcode checker has been launched to provide UK viewers with more information about the switch to digital television in their area.

The service from Digital UK, the organisation overseeing the switchover, will let you know when your analogue signal will be switched off, and what digital services and channels you’re likely to get.

The new online service comes less than three weeks before the switch to digital begins in Whitehaven, Cumbria, on 17 October. The switchover will then roll out across the entire UK, transmitter by transmitter, finishing in 2012.

The postcode checker will give you the date when switchover is happening by transmitter, and tell you the transmitter from which you’re most likely to receive digital TV. It will also tell you the likelihood of receiving good quality Freeview signal now, and at switchover

Ford Ennals, Chief Executive of Digital UK, said: ‘Public awareness and understanding about switchover is generally good but we do want to make sure people know what is happening and especially when it is coming to their area.’
