Families of football fans now have something completely new to give them for Christmas – an interactive DVD gift card.
The cards look like plastic gift cards but have a hybrid DVD-DVD ROM stuck to them, containing video and interactive content.
The content is playable in DVD players or computer drives, as well as in the games consoles PS2, Xbox and Xbox 360.
Today Manchester United is launching what’s claimed to be the first UK version of such a card, to promote its official membership scheme this Christmas.
The cards will be stocked in more than 300 Sainsbury’s stores nationwide. The cards act as a voucher to cover the price of club membership, and cost £17 for juniors (those aged under 16) and £28 for adults.
The Manchester United card features exclusive player video clips and match footage, and also allows fans to join the membership scheme online
This type of card has been successful in the US, and is reported to be one of the reasons why Americans are expected to spend $35 billion on gift cards this Christmas.
