More salmon products have been removed from sale over fears they could be contaminated with white spirit.
The Food Standards Agency’s latest alert says that several fresh Scottish salmon (but not organic salmon) products have been withdrawn by Tesco and Costco.
The original alert was issued on 13 February. Consumers aren’t being asked to return products.
The agency says there’s a risk of an unpleasant taste, but the chemicals implicated are at low levels, and are very unlikely to pose a health risk.
The products in the latest alert could all be affected and, as a precaution, have been withdrawn from sale.
The salmon was supplied by Marine Harvest, which is currently seeking the cause of the taint. It believes the source of the contamination could be diesel, but is continuing to investigate.
