Motorola W180 PAYG mobile for less than £3

Carphone Warehouse claims 'UK's cheapest' handset

Motorola W180 black

In response to the credit crunch, Carphone Warehouse is selling the Motorola W180 mobile phone for £2.88 on pay-as-you-go (PAYG).

The Motorola W180 is a very basic phone, and is claimed by Carphone Warehouse to be Britain’s cheapest pay-as-you-go mobile. However, the widely promoted £2.88 price is valid only when the phone is purchased with £10 top-up credit on the Orange network.

The Motorola W180 Black is quite a slimline handset at only 14mm thick, but it has a 128×128 pixel colour screen and FM radio. The short features list does include polyphonic ringtones, a calendar, a phonebook with 500 contact capacity and a USB connection. At this price, it’s unsurprising that it lacks a camera or MP3 player, though it’s a sharp contrast when compared with the feature-rich T-Mobile Google phone that was recently launched.

Use Quidco to get £5 cashback

Al Warman, Which? technology expert, said: ‘Only last month Carphone Warehouse had a £5 PAYG mobile, but this latest offer has beaten its previous cheapest mobile deal.

‘Although this phone won’t appeal to everyone, it’s a great bargain if you’re not bothered about fancy phone features.

‘Better still, consumers are reporting that it’s unlocked to use on other networks, and by buying online via a cashback website such as Quidco, you could get an additional £5 cashback. This brings the handset cost, including £10 top-up, down to an incredible £7.88.’
