‘White Van Man’ as unpopular as ever, survey shows

Van drivers among most annoying motorists

White Van Man still infuriates motorists

White Van Man is as unpopular as ever with other motorists, according to a survey by Holiday Autos.

The poll found that drivers of white vans and lorries were considered among the most annoying road users.

But motorists also revealed they had gripes with drivers who throw litter from their cars, hog the middle lane of the motorway and fail to use their indicators.

Aggressive drivers

Holiday Autos managing director Stuart Nassos said: ‘There is nothing worse when driving than not knowing what the drivers around you are doing. The most common cause of uncertainty is the failure to indicate.

‘Whether it’s true or not, lorry and white van drivers seem to have a reputation for not indicating, and driving aggressively.’

Two-thirds of those questioned by Holiday Autos said they found overly aggressive drivers more annoying than those who are slow and cautious.

Worst drivers

Almost half said the worst drivers were those behind the wheel of a BMW, while drivers – like white van men – are considered plain annoying.

Questions on nationality revealed that 80% thought Britons were the best drivers. Italians were seen as the worst drivers, followed by the French.
