No-frills airlines tend to sell tickets direct online or over the phone

Travel sites were among the biggest risers in the IMRG-Hitwise Hot Shops list, published today.

The list, published every quarter, ranks internet shops by number of visits received.

Thomas Cook rose 28 places to 15th, the biggest increase on last quarter’s list.

On the up

Expedia, Thomson Holidays and Easyjet all moved up several places, at one of busiest times of year for the travel industry.

Electrical goods did well, too, as Comet moved up seven places to 17th.

Robin Goad, Hitwise Director of Research, said: ‘There was a massive increase in searches for widescreen TVs after Christmas, and the likes of Comet and Dixons clearly benefited from this demand.’

Top of the table

There were few surprises at the top of the list, as the top 4 retailers – Amazon, Argos, Play and Tesco – remained unchanged.
