LG has unveiled several phones at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, including the KD900: a slider mobile phone with a transparent keypad.

The KD900 is still in the very early stages of its development, according to LG, but the phone sports a slide-out see-through keyboard – a first for LG mobile phones.

LG has provided more details of its GM730 mobile phone, which is expected to be launched in the first half of 2009. The GM730 features a 5Mp camera and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity. The operating system behind the three-inch touchscreen is Windows Mobile Professional 6.1.

LG has also announced the LG KT770 at the show: it sports a 2.8 inch screen and supports 3G, as well as a 5Mp digital camera.

LG and Samsung solar-powered phones

Yesterday Samsung detailed it Blue Earth mobile phone, which can draw charge from the large solar panel on the rear of the handset. LG has confirmed that it is also developing a solar-powered mobile phone, and claims that a ten minute charge in the sun will provide sufficient power to make a three minute call.

Jon Barrow, Which? mobile phone expert, said: ‘While other manufactures believe that consumers are looking for a decent camera, internet browser or media player on their handsets, it seems that LG think what we really need is a transparent keypad. The solar-powered device appears to offer more value, and competition between Samsung and LG is bound to drive development, which is good news for eco-conscious consumers.’

LG Arena KM900

The LG model that has drawn the largest crowds at this year’s Mobile World Congress is the LG KM900 Arena. More information about this model can be read in our LG KM900 Arena news story.
