Nokia has announced the launch of the compact Nokia E55 and the Nokia E75 – with its slide-out full Qwerty keyboard.

Both models were announced today at this year’s World Mobile Congress in Barcelona.

While the Nokia E75 is a smartphone – it features a keyboard and offers access to emails and word processing – it has also been designed for personal rather than business use. Two customisable home screens can be created to allow users to toggle between their work and home life

Mobile phones for work and home

The E75’s handset features a 3.2Mp camera and Wi-Fi connectivity. It can be synchronised with work and personal e-mail accounts. It’s expected that the phone will be launched in March.

The Nokia E55 weighs less than 100g and is only 9.9mm thick. It offers HSDPA (sometimes known as 3.5G) and Wi-Fi connectivity. It features a 2.4-inch screen and a 3.2Mp camera.

‘Compact’ keypad

It can be synchronised with email accounts and used to edit Office documents. However, unlike the E75, the E55 doesn’t feature a full Qwerty keyboard but instead has a ‘compact Qwerty’ keypad for composing messages.

Jon Barrow, Which? mobile phone expert, said: ‘The samrtphone sector of the mobile phone market is rapidly growing, and we can expect to see more and more phone launches of this sort as companies take advantage of this boom. The boundaries between phones for personal use and phones for business use are beginning to blur, as handsets are becoming more versatile.’

The Nokia E55 is expected to be launched in spring 2009.
