Samsung has announced two new digital cameras, both with 24mm wide-angle settings.

The Samsung WB550 is a 12.1Mp model with a 24-240mm lens – the 24mm setting is extremely wide, allowing you to zoom out farther for tight indoor shots and super-wide landscape photography. The WB550 has a 3-inch LCD screen, face and blink detection, smile shot for automatic pictures when a smile is detected and a beauty mode that enhances skin tones. It also features HD video recording.

The WB550 will be available from April for around £299.

The 12.1Mp WB100 features a 3 inch AMOLED screen at the back, rather than the standard LCD screen found on most digital cameras. The screen, based on OLED technology, consumes less power and displays a higher quality image, according to Samsung.

Like the WB550, the WB100 also has a 24mm lens setting, but the maximum setting is just 120mm. Face and blink detection, smile shot and beauty mode help you achieve better picture quality according to the company, and aperture and shutter speed priority modes give extra creative control. The WB100 also has an HD movie mode, but unlike the WB550, an optional cradle is required to display this on a bigger screen.

Christopher Christoforou, Which? digital cameras expert, said: ‘Samsung is a master at designing retro-looking cameras. The WB100 and WB550 fit into that category, but they also have bang up to date technology inside, with versatile 24mm lens settings. We are looking forward to taking a closer look at the AMOLED technology in the WB100 soon.’
