Flip launches the ‘world’s smallest HD camcorder’

Flip MinoHD, available for £169.95 from Firebox

Flip Mino HD

The Flip MinoHD is now available to buy in the UK for £169.95 from Firebox. Weighing around 94g and standing just 10cm tall, Flip is describing the MinoHD as the world’s smallest camcorder.

The Flip MinoHD is the successor to the hugely popular Flip Ultra and Flip Mino, which both shoot footage in standard definition. The entire range is aimed squarely at the ‘YouTube generation’, who are more interested in speed and portability, than editing features and picture quality. Our first look test found that the picture quality of the HD model is an improvement on the standard definition Flip pocket camcorders.

Pocket HD camcorder

The Flip MinoHD shoots at 1280 x 720p resolution, boasts 4GB of internal memory and has a 2x digital zoom. Unfortunately, due to its diminutive size, the screen measures just 1.5 inches diagonally, but the device is easy to use, both in terms of capturing footage and uploading it to YouTube.

Richard Parris, Which? camcorder expert, said: ‘It’s great to see HD recording being downsized into such portable budget camcorders. But consumers shouldn’t expect the kind of video quality achievable with a proper HD digital camcorder.’
