The new Peugeot 308 CC features a simple two-piece folding roof mechanism that takes just 20 seconds to open or shut, better interior quality and a choice of two petrol and two diesel engines. The more powerful version of each is available with an automatic gearbox. There are three trim levels: Sport, SE and GT.

Prices start at £19,495 for the entry-level 1.6 petrol Sport. For that you get alloy wheels, air conditioning, and remote locking that also secures the glovebox and centre console storage. Six airbags are standard, alongside ESC, and the 308 CC also has pop-up rollover bars for added protection when the roof’s down.

A 1.6-litre turbodiesel is also available in Sport specification. Priced from £20,495 this is likely to be the most efficient 308 CC, but Peugeot hasn’t yet confirmed the fuel economy details for this engine.

308 CC GT has ‘Airwave’ heaters to keep your neck warm

Moving up to SE, prices start at £20,395, and extra equipment includes bigger alloys, automatic lights and wipers, rear parking sensors, cruise control with speed limiter, and climate control. You also get a better stereo.

The full range of engines and gearboxes are available at this specification level, so alongside the basic petrol and diesel, a 1.6-litre turbo petrol and 2.0-litre turbodiesel are on offer.

Range-topping 308 CC GT

Finally, GT trim comes with the top-spec engines and maunal gearbox only, priced from £23,495. This adds leather, removable windstop (Peugeot has cleverly designed storage space for this under the boot floor) bigger wheels again, and front parking sensors.

GT also features ‘Airwave’ front seats. A vent in these blows hot air at your neck to keep you warm while the roof is down – a first on a four-seater coupé-convertible. Airwave is optional on SE with leather seats for £1,500.

Bluetooth phone connection and sat nav can be specified, with prices starting at £750. Boot space is reasonable at 226 litres (minimum) with the roof down; it’s fairly generous at 465 litres (maximum) with the roof up.

Peugeot is also offering what it calls a ‘peace of mind’ servicing package for the 308 CC. Costing just £199 it covers annual servicing (including parts and labour) for five years / 50,000 miles. Peugeot claims that offers a saving of more than £1,100 over pay-as-you-go servicing.

Limited Edition GT100

Those really keen to get their hands on the new 308 CC won’t have to wait until June, however.

A ‘GT100’ edition priced at £23,495 will arrive in May, based on the turbo petrol GT model and costing the same, but including metallic paint, electric front seats, special badging, numbered plaque and leather-bound commemorative pack. Just 50 ‘Nera Black’ and 50 ‘Pearl White’ GT100s are on offer, so if you are interested get down to your local Peugeot dealership soon.
