Sony Ericsson announces the T707 mobile phone

Gesture control phone to launch in late 2009

Sony Ericsson T707

Sony Ericsson is targeting the fashion-conscious consumer with the launch of its clamshell T707 mobile phone.

With a marketing campaign featuring Maria Sharapova, the mobile phone will be available in three colours: Mysterious Black, Lucid Blue, and Spring Rose.

The phone is being advertised as featuring a set of ‘eye-catching light effects’, and Sony Ericsson claims these can be programmed to change depending on the person who is trying to call you. The phone also features Gesture Control, which allows you to reject an incoming call, or set the alarm to snooze, by waving your hand across the phone’s screen.

Customisable features

These two features will allow you see whether a friend, a colleague, or a family member is calling you, and then reject the call without having to pick the handset up. Another feature allows you to customise the mobile phone’s wallpaper, which will change as day becomes night.

Jon Barrow, Which? mobile phone expert, said: ‘While the technology on this handset is hardly groundbreaking, the gimmicky features will probably appeal to some people, and it’s an attractive looking device. We’ll be looking to test this model when it’s launched later this year.’

SD memory card slot

Other functions are pretty standard, including the 3.2Mp camera, HTML web browsing capabilities and FM radio. The handset is rumoured to feature a slot for SD memory cards, which is unusual for any product associated with Sony, as they usually feature only an MS Micro (M2) card slot. The phone should last for around 400 hours on standby between charges, according to Sony Ericsson.
