Samsung has announced the UK launch of the Tocco Lite mobile phone and is promoting it with the emphasis on its social media features.

According to Samsung, the Tocco Lite uses online widgets to ensure users can keep their Facebook status up-to-date, log on to their MySpace page or browse YouTube for the latest videos, all from a simple one-touch interface on the main menu screen.

The specification of the Tocco Lite includes a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen, a 3 megapixel camera with smile- and face-detection, plus an FM radio.

Mark Mitchinson, vice-president of Samsung Mobile UK and Ireland, said: ‘With its vivid and responsive full touchscreen, the Tocco Lite will appeal to consumers who want to access their social media sites in a simple and colourful way.’

Which? tech expert Al Warman said: ‘Samsung is setting a broad target market for the Tocco Lite, especially among those people who like constant access to their friends via social networking.

‘If you’re looking for a touchscreen mobile, Which? has reviewed over 170 mobile handsets so you can be sure you’re buying the best mobile. We’ve also got brand summaries, so you can decide whether a Samsung mobile is what you’re looking for.’

The Samsung Tocco Lite is likely to be available in UK mobile stores from mid-May 2009. The price of the Tocco Lite is yet to be confirmed, but Samsung claims it will be ‘an ultra competitive mid-range price’.
