Virgin launches unlimited PAYG mobile phone deal

'Market beating' deal has unlimited texts and web

Virgin Mobile has launched a PAYG mobile phone tariff offering ‘unlimited’ texts and internet access to users who top up £20 a month.

Virgin Mobile is billing the deal as ‘market leading’ in the pay as you go (PAYG) market, and follows the launch of its ‘best value’ £8.50 pay monthly tariff last month that includes a mobile phone handset, 100 anytime minutes and 100 texts each month.

See how Virgin Mobile’s customers rate it for customer satisfaction in our guide to the best PAYG and pay monthly mobile networks – you can also check out reviews of the latest mobile phones.

Although the new tariff promises unlimited texts and internet access for those who top up £20, there’s a fair use limit of 3000 texts a month and a monthly download limit of 1GB.

If you top up £15 you’ll get 600 free texts per month and a £10 top up earns 300 free texts. Those who top up less than £20 a month can also download up to 25MB a day for 30p.

The tariff does not offer inclusive voice minutes so consumers will be charged a flat rate of 20p per minute for calls to mobile phones and landlines. After allowances are used up, web access costs a maximum of 30p per day and texts cost 10p each.

Virgin Mobile’s deal comes with a choice of 34 PAYG  mobile phone handsets ranging from £14.99 – £249.99.

If you want to keep your existing mobile phone, Virgin Mobile will give you a free PAYG sim card, although you may have to pay a fee to get your mobile handset unlocked to other networks.

New customers who top up £10 on their first top up get twice as much free allowances – Virgin Mobile gives a month’s free allowance instantly as a welcome bonus and then the standard allowance on the first day of the following month.
