Sony has launched its latest range of Walkman MP3 players, the X Series, with an event that claimed to ‘transform tube commuting into the ultimate cinema experience’.

The Sony X Series was launched at a ‘Tube Cinema’ event that saw a London Underground tube carriage transformed into a luxury cinema to highlight the potential of the X Series’ 3-inch widescreen OLED touchscreen for watching movies on the move.

Which? mobile experts filmed the event – and the X Series Walkman MP3 player – in this exclusive video hands-on.

Sony says that the X Series video MP3 player is the ‘world’s first player with digital noise cancelling’, and that it offers three settings designed to cut background noise when listening to audio on a plane, train, or in the office.

The Sony X Series features Wi-Fi wireless networking, and access to YouTube, BBC iPlayer and direct podcast downloads.

Which? tech expert Al Warman said: ‘Sony MP3 players often perform well in Which? tests, and Sony’s A Series MP3 players are among our top-scoring Best Buys. Check out Which? expert reviews of over 200 MP3 players including 27 from Sony.

‘The new X Series could be Sony’s best MP3 player yet, and the OLED screen should deliver vibrant colours ideal for watching videos during a commute. The Which? test labs will give it a full review to see how it compares to the iPod Touch.’

The X Series Walkman is available with 16GB or 32GB capacities, priced at £209 and £279 respectively, from the SonyStyle website and from high-street Sony Centres and selected retailers from today.
