Orange announces iPhone launch date

Orange confirms 10 November for iPhone launch

Mobile phone giant Orange has announced that it will start selling Apple‘s iPhone from 10th November, ending the two year exclusive deal with 02.

Orange says that a quarter of a million customers have already registered their interest on its website and it will open some Orange stores at 7am to cope with demand.

Orange has a number of price plans. The iPhone 3GS will be free on all £45 pay monthly plans and the 3G model will be free from £30 by signing a 24-month contract. Customers wanting to pay £30 for an 18-month deal will have to pay around £100 up front to get an iPhone 3G model.

PAYG iPhone

Pay as you go (PAYG) customers can buy the iPhone for £333 and will automatically get 250MB of data each month, plus unlimited use of the public Wi-Fi network, BT Openzone, for 12 months.

The iPhone 3GS is the fastest iPhone yet – up to twice as fast as iPhone 3G, with longer battery life, a high-quality 3 megapixel autofocus camera, easy to use video recording and hands free voice control.

iPhone 3GS versus iPhone 3G

The CEO of Orange UK Tom Alexander, said: ‘Since we announced the iPhone on Orange we have already seen more than a quarter of a million customers register their interest on our website. We will be matching their enthusiasm with a 3G mobile broadband network that covers more people in the UK than any other operator, a commitment to deliver the best 3G experience on the iPhone and best-in-class applications and plans.’

The iPhone will be available in all 402 UK Orange stores, its online shop, by phone, and its Orange HMV concessions, as well as through Apple Retail Stores, Carphone Warehouse, Phones4U and other selected high street partners.

A number of Orange stores across the UK will be opening from 7am on November 10, with other stores across the country keeping their doors open until late.
