Entourage Edge ‘Dualbook’ ebook reader launched

World's first two-page ebook reader shown at CES

The Entourage Edge is the world’s first two-page ebook reader, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show 2010. It features a 9.7-inch e-ink page, typical to those found on other ebook readers, and a 10.1-inch colour LCD.

The Entourage Edge opens like a regular book with the two screens facing inwards, and both screens provide touchscreen control. An included stylus is used for making notes on and controlling the functions of the e-ink page.

E-ink screens only allow for grey images and text to be displayed, but the Entourage Edge will allow you to view these images in colour by moving them across to the LCD screen. Videos embedded in pdf documents can be played – something that isn’t currently possible with other ebook readers.

Wi-fi enabled ebook reader

The Entourage Edge provides wi-fi connectivity, so any web links within a document can selected and the web page open on the colour LCD screen.

To save power, the ebook can be used without switching on the LCD. The Entourage Edge maker claims that the battery will last for around 40 hours when using the e-ink page alone, and that you’ll get around eight hours of use when using both the LCD page and the e-ink page.

The Entourage Edge is now available for pre-order, and will begin shipping in the US in February when it will cost around $490. The company said that the Entourage Edge will launch in the UK later this year.
