Revised e-tron electric car is light and quick

Not to be outdone by VW’s New Compact Coupe, Audi choose the North American International Auto Show in Detroit to reveal a smaller e-tron all-electric sports car.

This follows on from the R8-sized machine it showed for the first time at the 2009 Frankfurt motor show.

Powered by a pair of electric motors producing 201bhp, the new e-tron gets to 62mph from standstill in just 5.9 seconds.

Top speed is limited to 124mph (to extend battery life) and it has a maximum range of around 155 miles.

Audi claims it can be charged in just two hours

Built from a mixture of aluminium and carbon-fibre, the e-tron weighs 1,350 kg, and is charged in as little as two hours.

Absolutely packed with technology, it is sadly nowhere near as close to production as the VW New Compact Coupé appears to be.
