Loft insulation could save the average household £150 a year on their energy bills, and it’s now available ‘hassle-free’ from Marks & Spencer.

Marks and Spencer has launched a new Home Energy Service, which will offer customers a range of energy efficiency products and services.

Insulation will be the first product available, with prices starting at just £149 for loft insulation or cavity wall insulation.

Our greener living section has advice on buying loft insulation, wall insulation and how to get energy grants to cut energy use and save money. You can also find out the most energy efficient home appliances Which? has reviewed in our energy saving appliances review.

The benefits of insulation

Head of M&S Energy Stephen Langford said: ‘Insulating your home saves you money and helps in the fight against climate change – a genuine win-win situation.’

Insulating a loft can save the average homeowner £150 a year on heating bills and cut CO2 emissions by 800kg. Meanwhile, cavity wall insulation could cut the average householder’s bills by £115 a year.

Read our guide to buying cavity wall insulation for information on types of cavity wall insulation and the pros and cons of each.

Save more money on your energy bills

As well as insulation, the M&S Home Energy Service will offer additional products in coming months, including solar panels, heat pumps and energy efficient heating solutions. Read our advice guide on how to buy solar panels to find out if this is the right choice for your home.

Which? Switch’s Alison Morrison advises: ‘Energy efficiency measures, such as fitting insulation and using an electricity monitor, are a great way to reduce your energy usage and cut your bills.

‘However, the quickest way to slash your energy costs is to switch to a cheaper energy tariff. If you’ve never switched energy suppliers, you could shave hundreds of pounds off your bill by comparing energy tariffs and switching to a better deal.’

Free insulation for M&S employees

M&S is offering free loft or cavity wall insulation to all its employees, in a bid to encourage energy efficiency.

If all qualifying employees take up the offer, M&S will insulate over 30,000 homes for free. This will save the same amount of CO2 per year as taking over 4,100 cars off the road.
