Golden Garages to highlight top repairers

Golden garages competition will highlight the UK’s best service and repair centres

A contest to find the UK’s best car service and repair centres has been launched, and Which? Car is on the judging panel.

The Golden Garages competition, created by the government-supported regulatory body Motor Codes, will champion good service and work – and help motorists find a good garage.

A Motor Codes survey has found that almost half of UK drivers feel they’ve paid over the odds for work on their vehicle – but the body says garages subscribing to its code of practice have a 91% satisfaction rate.

Richard Headland, editor of Which? Car, is on the panel that garages will need to impress. He said: “Competition for customers is fierce in the service and repair sector and garages must stand out from the crowd to succeed.

“The independent garage trade has often received unfair criticism, but members of the public using a garage that has signed up to a code of practice have the peace of mind that the business is committed to being trustworthy and fair, plus will provide high levels of customer service.

“It is these outstanding characteristics that I will look for in Britain’s Golden Garage.”

Ten regional winners, as well as a national champion, will be announced on 6 April.
