Zanussi ZKT6050W freestanding cooker

The Zanussi ZKT6050W comes with two ovens and catalytic self-cleaning liners

Which? has published its latest reviews of gas and electric freestanding cookers, including details of two new Best Buys.

The latest batch of cookers tested by Which? includes models from Beko, Belling, Electrolux, Hotpoint, Indesit, New World, Stoves and Zanussi – there are now 72 cookers including 17 Best Buys in our freestanding cookers review.

Types tested include multi-function cookers with double ovens, fan-assisted cookers with double ovens, cookers with an oven and separate grill and inexpensive all-in-one cookers with an oven and grill combined.

If you’re not in the market for a four-ring freestanding gas or electric cooker, there are plenty of other cooking appliance reviews on Which.co.uk, including 51 range cooker reviews, 86 built-in oven reviews and 94 microwave reviews. In April 2010 we’ll also be launching a new review of gas, gas on glass and induction hobs.

Buying the best cooker

Our latest batch of cooker reviews include the Zanussi ZKT6050W electric cooker, which comes with two ovens and touch-panel controls, and the Hotpoint 61DGW gas cooker, with a double oven and catalytic self-cleaning surfaces. You can read all about these two cookers and 70 more in our freestanding cookers review, which also reveals which cookers have been awarded coveted Which? Best Buy status and which Don’t Buy cookers we think you should avoid.

You can pay anything from £150 to £950 for a freestanding cooker, but our current review shows that if you’re on a budget you’ll be able to get a Best Buy cooker for under £250.

Which? cookers testing

We test how well the cookers distribute heat around their ovens, how quickly they heat up and how well they maintain temperatures. We also record how well the grills spread heat across the grill pan and how quickly the hobs heat up. We also test how easy each of the cookers is to use.

The full list of cookers tested is: Gas cookers: Belling G552 Enfield, Belling G755, Hotpoint 61DGW, Indesit K3G21SXIR and Stoves 61GDO. Electric cookers: Beko S502, Electrolux EKC6049X, Hotpoint EW84X, New world ES50S and Zanussi ZKT6050W.
