Samsung has announced four new HD camcorders that are scheduled for a June 2010 launch: the Samsung HMX-H200, the Samsung HMX-H203, the Samsung HMX-H204 and the Samsung HMX-H205.

All four new models are able to capture full HD footage at 1920x1080i resolution and HD at 1280x720p resolution. Each HD camcorder features a 37mm wide angle lens and 20x optical zoom.

The HD camcorders can also take still images at 4.7Mp. They each have a 2.7-inch touchscreen LCD, built in optical image stabilisation – for minimising the unwanted effects of shaky hands – and an HDMI port for connecting them to an HD TV.

All four of the newly announced HD camcorders support SD and SDHC (high capacity) memory cards. The HMX-H200 lacks any internal memory, while the HMX-H203, the HMX-H204 and the HMX-H205 have 8GB, 16GB and 32GB of internal memory respectively.

Time lapse video mode

Samsung has also included a time lapse mode to this line up of H-series camcorders, allowing users to take an image every one, three or five seconds and then produce a single 720p video file.

Richard Parris, Which? camera and camcorder expert, said: ‘Only a year ago it was unusual to see an HD camcorder with an optical zoom of more than 12x. Samsung’s new range adds to the growing number of ‘superzoom’ camcorders, and we look forward to putting these models through their paces in our lab tests’.
