Dell Android-based tablet launches first in the UK

Dell Streak tablet

Dell announces plans for the launch of the Streak, a 5-inch Android based tablet, exclusively on the O2 network.

Dell says the tablet is designed to provide people with the best ‘on-the-go’ entertainment, social connection and navigation experience. Pricing and data plans will be announced by O2 ahead of the launch date in early June.

The most talked about tablet yet, the Apple iPad, launches in the UK this Friday. See our hands on First Look for more on what to expect

Dell Streak

The Dell Streak is ideal for experiencing thousands of Android Market widgets, games and applications without squinting or compromising portability, according to Dell. It claims the 5-inch multi-touch screen is large enough to present web pages in their natural form, without compromising portability. It comes with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform and will support over the air platform updates, such as Adobe Flash 10.1 on Android 2.2 later this year.

The tablet has built in wi-fi, Bluetooth and available 3G connectivity for downloading and listening to music, and for updating social networking status in real time. There’s a 5 Mp camera and 2GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 32GB with a MicroSD card.

Dell Android tablet available on O2

The tablet will launch exclusively on the O2 network and will be available from O2 stores, O2.co.uk, The Carphone Warehouse and later in the month from Dell.co.uk.

Unusually the device is launching in the UK first but Dell has plans to make Streak available in America later this summer.
