Which? research has found that nearly one in three English hospitals don’t provide information in their car parks about parking discounts.
Patients and visitors to these hospitals are being left in the dark about the parking discounts available, while people visiting other hospitals are being told about parking discounts on the hospitals’ websites, in the hospitals’ car parks, in wards and in letters to patients.
One Which? member told us about his wife who was attending hospital for chemotherapy treatment and wasn’t aware that she was entitled to free parking. He said: ‘The voucher scheme is not advertised and we wouldn’t have known unless other cancer patients had told us.’
Which? policy adviser Rebecca Owen-Evans says: ‘It’s unacceptable that patients and visitors are paying more than they need to for hospital parking. Hospitals need to give more information on the discounts they provide.’
