Latest test results

Which? breadmaker expert Lisa Galliers says: ‘Our breadmaker testing is usually dominated by Panasonic, Kenwood and Morphy Richards, so it’s great to see some well-known high street brands entering the market.

‘But, can they match up to the market leaders in terms of performance? In our latest round of testing we have one new Best Buy but some of the others were pretty unimpressive.’

How we test breadmakers

To test breadmakres, we focus on how good breadmakers are at making loaves. We make white and brown bread, as well as jam and cakes, if the models have features for these.

We test out the basic, delay and rapid-bake settings to find out which are the best breadmakers. We also use seeded packet mixes to see how well the breadmakers cope at mixing seeds into a loaf. We check to see if they are evenly distributed or if any have been crushed up during the process.

We also rate the bread for a range of criteria including taste, texture, appearance, crust and aroma.
