The new Kia Sportage range doesn’t arrive in full until November, but following on from a special diesel First Edition, Kia has announced a limited-run petrol model for the keenest buyers.
Just 300 Kia Sportage First Edition petrol models will be available at UK dealerships, to complement the 850 diesel examples that went on sale in July.
Sportage starts at £19,495
Powered by a 2.0-litre engine producing 161bhp, the petrol First Edition features four-wheel drive, has a 113mph top speed and reaches 62mph in 10.3 seconds. It emits 188g/km CO2 and returns 35.8mpg (according to official EU figures) – some way short of the 156g/km and 47.1mpg of the 2.0-litre four-wheel drive diesel.
The petrol is however slightly cheaper to buy – the petrol being priced from £19,495 while the diesel costs from £20,777. To figure out which one makes more sense for you try the Which? online fuel calculator.
The Sportage First Edition petrol has the exact same comprehensive level of fitted equipment as the diesel. Black leather seats, dual-zone climate control, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, Bluetooth, cruise control, automatic wipers and a rear parking camera are all included. The Kia seven-year/100,000-mile warranty adds further value.
Two-wheel drive to come
There is a choice of four paint colours this time – Clyde Blue (pictured), Phantom Black, Silver Storm and Techno Orange – compared to five for the diesel.
Eventually the full Kia Sportage line-up will include front-wheel drive only versions, plus smaller 1.6-litre petrol and 1.7-litre turbodiesel engines for better economy.
The new Kia Sportage First Edition petrol is on sale now.
