Mobile broadband services perform poorly

Which? unveils new mobile broadband survey results

Latest Which? mobile broadband survey

New research from Which? reveals that mobile broadband services aren’t up to scratch, compared with traditional fixed-line broadband services.

In a survey of almost 10,000 Which? members, the top customer satisfaction score for a mobile broadband provider was just 56%, compared to 89% for the best fixed-line provider.

It’s not all bad news though – the top customer satisfaction score has improved since our last survey in 2009.

Best and worst mobile broadband providers

The latest Which? survey shows a marked difference between mobile broadband providers. The top service gets a customer satisfaction score of 56%, while the bottom two providers get just 36%.

Make sure you don’t end up with a service you’re unhappy with – see the full survey results in the Which? Mobile broadband reviews. You can find out how providers are rated for connection speed, reliability, ease of set-up, value for money and customer service.

Problems on the move

Three quarters of the Which? members surveyed who use mobile broadband said they’d experienced problems connecting to the internet on their network.

Mobile broadband is aimed at people who want to access the internet when out and about. But, as you’d expect, problems on the move are more common than when using mobile broadband in a fixed location.

Another option for getting online outside the home is by using wi-fi hotspots. Find out where to go to make the most of free wi-fi access in the free Which? guide to wi-fi hotspots.

Which? surveyed 9,657 Which? members in July 2010 to find out what they thought of their mobile broadband service.
