Channel 4 has launched a new film streaming service, Film4od, in partnership with on-demand film specialist FilmFlex. The service, which goes head-to-head with the burgeoning LoveFilm service, is already live and boasts over 500 releases.
Rentals last for up to 48 hours, and prices range from 50p to as much as £3.99. Its collection includes not only celebrated Film4 productions, such as Four Lions, but also Hollywood blockbusters like Prince of Persia and Clash Of The Titans.
At present the service is only available via web browsers, and can’t be used on mobile phones or other mobile devices. Film4od estimates a minimum broadband speed of 2Mbps is required to use the service, though this should be the measured speed and not a theoretical maximum. Film4od supplies its own diagnostic tool, which includes a broadband speed tester, to test your compatibility with the service.
FilmFlex, the company powering the service, is better known for its on-demand service on Virgin Media. A Sony Pictures Television and Walt Disney Company partnership, FilmFlex offers a similar catalogue of films to the cable service that includes HD versions.
You can try Film4od now by visiting Film4od’s website.
