Samsung unveils high-tech baby monitor

Wireless baby monitor hooks up to TV and internet

Samsung baby monitor

Samsung is promising that the advanced features of its first wireless baby monitor will provide ‘the ultimate’ in peace of mind for parents.

The Samsung SEW-3030 baby monitor system is comprised of a rechargeable battery-powered 3.5 inch LCD video monitor and a portable wireless camera.

As well as watching and listening to the monitor in the usual way, you can also hook it up to your TV. Its ‘picture in picture’ viewing option lets you keep an eye on your little one while you’re watching a programme.

Additionally, it can be connected to a PC and integrated with a video chat application such as Skype – so you can check on your baby remotely over the internet wherever you are.

We’ll be reporting back the findings from our hands-on First Look review of this baby monitor as soon as possible, to see how well it works – and if it’s worth the investment. In the meantime, read our top baby monitor shopping tips and consult in-depth baby monitor reviews before you buy.

Fitting for its higher-than-average £149.99 price tag, the Samsung monitor has a pretty packed product spec, including:

  • secure digital wireless monitoring – no interference from other wireless devices;
  • infrared light sensors to switch between colour images for day, and black and white images at night – no need for extra lighting;
  • a ‘night vision’ function – allowing you to see up to 3 metres in darkness;
  • a room temperature monitor – alerting you if the temperature gets too hot.

Samsung says the baby monitor has a claimed range of 100 metres and can support up to four cameras (bought separately for £89.99), so you can check on more than one child simultaneously. There’s also two-way audio so you can sooth and talk to your baby when they start crying.
